Connected Intensive Care Unit
An auditory communication system for a silent ICU
We developed a scenario for how connected technology could be applied to an intensive care unit (ICU) in a modern hospital. We didn't try to become doctors and improve medical care itself, but rather focussed on the ICU environment.
The project outcome is a prototype for an auditory communication system for ICU staff. Alarm sounds typically emitted from medical machines and other devices such as phones are replaced by a headphone-based system. This way, every staff members only hears the signals meant for them, which increases awareness and makes the whole ICU quieter for everyone.
